REI Goodyear, AZ

The REI distribution center in Goodyear, Arizona, spanning an impressive 393,000 square feet, stands as a collaborative triumph between the outdoor retailer and DMW&H, a leading design and integration company specializing in warehouse solutions. Tasked with meeting REI’s demand for efficient distribution, DMW&H embarked on a comprehensive project. Their approach involved a meticulous analysis of REI’s supply chain requirements, considering factors such as order fulfillment speed, inventory management, and sustainability. The outcome was a cutting-edge design seamlessly integrating automated storage and retrieval systems, conveyor systems, and advanced sorting technologies. This not only optimized REI’s logistics but also demonstrated a commitment to environmental sustainability through the use of energy-efficient solutions and eco-friendly construction materials. At the heart of REI’s new distribution center lies an innovative “one-touch production environment,” challenging traditional omni-channel fulfillment models. Designed and integrated by DMW&H, the facility serves as a central hub for outdoor gear and apparel, housing an extensive inventory of 75,000 SKUs. The goods-to-person stations discreetly tracks and delivers totes to workstations equipped with visual queues and alerts, ensuring precision in the decant process. Leveraging a sophisticated warehouse management system (WMS) and warehouse execution system (WES), the center optimizes storage and order fulfillment. The shuttle system efficiently stores items, and automation takes charge as the WES guides the movement of totes, ensuring timely processing of both retail and direct-to-consumer orders. The order fulfillment process is streamlined, emphasizing precision, error prevention, and optimal packaging for cartonized and polybagged orders. REI’s distribution center not only reflects an advanced technological approach and streamlined processes but also underscores a commitment to accuracy and sustainability. The successful collaboration between REI and DMW&H sets new industry standards, showcasing a facility that combines innovative design expertise with a dedication to quality and environmental responsibility in the outdoor retail sector.
