Summary:

The Licensing and Permitting Specialist is responsible for ensuring DMW&H is current in required contractor licenses, business licenses and understands and leads the entire permitting process for projects. This will entail filing applications and managing municipal interactions for current projects and preparing to deliver future projects. The role will need to understand future requirements by interacting with the Sales & Solutions team and current requirements provided by the Operations team. In addition, this role will need to liaise with external entities to ensure all documentation on file is current or in process to meet milestones.

Reports to: Director of Field Installation & Sub-contracting

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Operations, Business, Science discipline or experience in a related field required. Other education levels considered based on relevant work experience.
  • Relevant work experience in a similar capacity.
  • Experience with multiple projects ranging in size from $1M to $60M.
  • Ability to lead initiatives to deliver expected outcomes.
  • Ability to understand project scope and associated permitting requirements to use that information to obtain licenses and permits.
  • Experience and demonstrated skills managing and coordinating across multiple disciplines for clear definition of required deliverables for permitting.
  • Ability to host and coordinate meetings with Vendors, Customers, and Internal Resources.
  • Excellent critical thinking skills with the ability to have foresight in predicting risks and issues.
  • Excellent time-management, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively interface with customers, consultants, and upper management.
  • Proven record of accomplishment of taking on initiatives and a superior work ethic.
  • Professional Engineer License is a plus.
  • Microsoft Word, Teams, and MS Excel required, while MS Project and Navigation of AutoCAD files are a plus.

Responsibilities:

General

  • Maintain log of current DMW&H contracting licenses, business licenses and insurance certificates in good standing.
  • Verify that the correct license at the right level is in place.
  • Support acquiring new licensing as required by the business.
  • Support new project permitting throughout process internally (from sales through project close out). This includes, investigation, application, expediting, inspections and close- out of the permit(s).
  • Identify the needs for qualifying individuals to support the DMW&H licensing process.
  • Support Sales & Solutions team with feedback on timelines to obtain licenses or permits for proposals.
  • Monitor licensing and permit costs against budget and inform Project Manager of any variances or costs that may need to be captured in a Change Order in accordance with contractual agreements.
  • Collaborate with Project Manager to develop unique permit timeline plan per project.
  • Work with Project Managers and Engineering to facilitate acquiring required project permits.
  • Meet with and develop reporting for Project Mangers to monitor licensing and permitting progress.
  • Attend Project and Installation kick-off meetings.
  • Collaborate with Mechanical & Electrical Project Engineering to obtain necessary documentation.
  • Attend or coordinate onsite inspections as needed.
  • Provide feedback to Sales & Solutions and Operational Departments in areas that can be improved or are going well.
  • Prepare and provide information to Project Manager for Project Variance Log and for review in the Post Project Discussion. Coordinate with Project Managers and Director of Field Installation for on-site inspection requirements throughout the project life cycle.
  • Coordinate payment of fees with Procurement team.
  • Owner of the master list of contractor licenses & business licenses by state and obtain the necessary licensing requirements for future projects.

  • May be assigned to special projects or required to perform other duties not listed above, which may vary from time to time as determined by management, to meet company needs.
  • Travel up to 10% for project applications, expediting and inspections. May require some weekend travel.
