Project Manager – Warehouse Material Handling Systems

In this role, you will be responsible for managing projects independently.  Your role will be to deliver customers’ expectations as well as DWW&H objectives.  The Project Manager will oversee all functions for the project and will collaborate with department managers including Engineering, Controls and Software, Installation and After Sales Support to deliver the best possible outcome.

 Primary responsibilities and key attributes include but are not limited to:

  1. Act as Project Team Leader and focal point for customer relations. This includes skill to manage our customer’s expectations, and build/maintain a strong professional relationship.
  2. Ability to architect the project plan and objectives, and identify/remove obstacles for the project team.
  3. Possess solid understanding of material handling (integration of equipment, individual components, rates, software, controls, etc.)
  4. Understand customer business and operational needs.
  5. Utilize post-sales skills to obtain orders for enhancements.
  6. Maintain clear and timely communications among the client, the consultant, and all DMW&H departments.
  7. Possess capability to manage a project financially. Must understand DMW&H’s financial goals and be able to balance project decisions against the budget, this includes maintaining the operations report data (sales value, hours, costs, schedule, etc.).
  8. Create, update and issue an overall project task list, risks and issues log, end of job punch list, and complete close out documentation.
  9. Coordinate design reviews and ensure they are aligned across all functions.

 Requirements:

  1. Two-year technical degree or higher or equivalent experience.
  2. Automated distribution material handling equipment background.
  3. Understanding of software, controls, and the Functional Requirements Specification.
  4. Excellent time-management skills
  5. Excellent written and verbal communication
  6. Comfortable interfacing with customers, consultants and upper management
  7. MS Word, MS Excel and MS Project required. AutoCAD is a plus.
  8. Ability to travel as needed for project requirements

Controls Engineer

The Controls Engineer is responsible for applying acquired technical skills and project experience to the design and execution of the controls/electrical engineering portion of all Company projects.

The Controls Engineer will work as a member of a project team, applying his/her engineering and project management skills to ensure accuracy and adherence to departmental standards, project schedules, prescribed resource limits and client requirements in the following areas:  Electrical controls design and field installation/start-up.

Position Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

    Design

  • Complete electrical controls descriptions and device layouts for initial internal review and subsequent customer approval.
  • Complete electrical drawings in coordination with electrical engineer per design specifications.
  • Order control panels, PLC equipment and field controls equipment per design requirements.
  • Prepare bid packages for sub-contractors for electrical field wiring.
  • Review controls drawings and programs with controls engineering manager for correctness and operational intent.
  • Code PLC programs and prepares documentation based on project design specifications.
  • Internal testing with software engineering on system integration details
  • Field start-up on PLC-controlled projects; support software engineering on start-ups.

Project Management/Coordination

  • Maintain up-to-date files of all relevant paperwork on projects.
  • Consult with controls engineers and project managers to ensure proper coordination and adherence to schedules in mechanical installation, electrical installation and field start-up.
  • Attend to service calls in the field when required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
  • Experience in controls design and project engineering in the material handling industry is preferred.
  • PLC Programming experience, preferably in Allen Bradley ControlLogix, PLC 5, and SLC 500 series PLCs
  • Project management skills.
  • Can work independently and as part of a team
  • Organizational skills.
  • Ability to travel 50%

Lead Installation Supervisor – Warehouse Material Handling Systems

Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Ability to oversee complex material handling system installations meeting deadlines and budget goals
  • Understand and layout complex conveyor systems from installation drawings
  • Lead crews and Installation Supervisors to install MDR, Accumulation, belt on roller, sorters, merge tables
  • Unload and inventory equipment deliveries
  • Represent Company in construction meetings on site and communicate with customer on daily basis
  • Establish and maintain professional and responsive relationships with customers
  • Ability to work collaboratively with all trades on site as well as other DMW&H departments
  • Proactively recommend staffing needs according to job requirements
  • Proactively assess and prioritize work
  • Submit timesheets and expense reports weekly for crew on site
  • Foresee risks and issues and escalate to Project Manager
  • Train new employees/contractors on safety procedures, Company and Site policies
  • Ability to negotiate with general contractors, trades and vendors.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of supervisory experience running complex conveyor installation crews of 5-20 mechanics and agency labor staff
  • Ability to read and understand equipment BOM’s
  • Frequent overnight stays for long periods of time.
  • Solid written and oral communication skills
  • Shoe sorter installation experience required
  • Pop up sorter installation experience required
  • Header steel installation experience required
  • Incline / decline installation experience required
  • Accuglide installation experience required
  • MDR conveyor installation experience required
  • Ability to use MS Excel, MS Word, Windows laptop, Outlook
  • Welding experience required
  • Ability to operate lift equipment required
  • GOH and rail experience a plus

Senior Account Executive – Material Handling Systems

In this role, you will be responsible for business development, sales, and promotion of DMW&H services.  Position initiates new customer contacts as well as maintains relationships with current customers to broaden the scope of services offered by DMW&H.

 Primary responsibilities and key attributes include but are not limited to: 

  • Primary overall function is to develop new business opportunities and maintain existing customer base.
  • Develop and implement business strategies that provide market share growth and continuous improvement of project margins.
  • Develop and promote company image to ensure acceptance of company services with existing customers and new business.
  • Participate in the development of goals, policies and procedures related to sales.
  • Develop effective and appropriate sales presentations for the products and services of the company.
  • Provide sales reports and forecasts for future business opportunities. Prepare and submit accurate periodic reports on department and project activities.
  • Follow up on proposals submitted to customers to ensure DMW’s best opportunity to win contracts and secure profitable business.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree – Management or Engineering preferred.
  • 5-7 years of progressive responsibility in sales of system solutions in the material handling industry preferred.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills (verbal and written). Analytical and persuasive skills and the ability to interact with all levels of customers, management and employees.
  • Strong technical comprehension skills to be able to read, understand and analyze customer bid specifications and drawings.

Systems Integration Analyst

DMW&H is an end provider of integrated technologies and automation servicing the warehouse distribution and fulfillment needs of large US and international retail companies.  Within DMW&H the Systems Engineering Department supports the procurement of new business by way of performing technical evaluation, systems design and estimating functions.   The Systems Engineering group operates closely with Sales and is responsible for the technical content of proposals offered to our customers.

Position Description:

 This position is focused around the support of our Sales Account Managers in the interest of procuring new business. Responsibilities may include:

  • Analytical assessment of client data and information for determination of system requirements
  • Design and illustration of client specific material handling solutions
  • Overseeing and/or generating cost estimates for proposed warehouse integration projects
  • Contributing technical support to the creation of comprehensive proposals documents and presentation materials
  • Attending and contributing technical support to customer consultations and sales presentations

Position Requirements:

 Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering

Design Consultant                                                          

In this role, you will support sales staff in the design process with the objective of procuring new business.  This support is provided by performing distribution center facility design, technical evaluation, systems design and estimating functions. The Design Consultant operates closely with Sales and Estimating and is responsible for initial evaluation of potential projects, assistance in qualifying the probability of material handling sales for clients, development of proposals to design material handling systems within distribution centers as well as all other areas of the facility.

Position Description:

This position is focused on procurement of new material handling equipment business. Responsibilities include:

  • Making sales calls with sales team members to new potential clients and when a sales member needs consulting support for a client
  • Participating in the conceptual process for client solutions at initial stages and throughout evolution
  • Maintaining a complete understanding of proposed technical solutions developed with the Sales and Estimating departments
  • Engaging with sales to develop proposed material design solutions for customers
  • Develop unit throughput rates within distribution centers from client activity data; such as units or cartons picked per day, pallets moved per day, etc. for the design process
  • Develop and write client consulting proposals as requested for:
    • Process improvement studies
    • Entire distribution facility design, including present and future space requirements
    • Return on Investment calculations to include; estimated labor, space and capital requirements
  • Author final consulting presentations at the completion of engagements including:
    • Presentation of pertinent data
    • Description of proposed system operations or process improvements
    • Requirements by sample years of space, labor and capital, as appropriate to the engagement
  • Provide consultation to the sales department and clients regarding:
    • Material Handling rolling equipment (fork trucks, order pickers, etc.)
    • Storage systems (bulk stacking, pallet rack, pushback rack, etc.)
    • Estimated labor productivity rates for various distribution center

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Industrial Engineering or Supply Chain Engineering
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in fields related to material handling system design, distribution center process improvement, material handling system high-level capital and labor estimating
  • Working knowledge of 2013 release Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Access a plus
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Manage consulting engagements to include:
    • Supplying statistical analysis
    • Conceptual material handling system design
    • Space calculations for all areas of a distribution center.
    • Develop Return on Investment for proposed systems.
    • Develop labor estimates

Project Engineer

Work with a Senior level engineer or manager in the design and development of material handling systems in fulfillment of contracts awarded to DMW&H from multiple outside sources.  Utilize time to provide cost effective solutions within project budget and schedule constraints.  Interact with systems engineering, controls, project management, purchasing, shop and field on the design, procurement, and installation departments regarding the systems being designed.

 Responsibilities:

  • Plan, organize and complete the engineering effort required for a given task to meet the project schedule and budget.  Communicate the status of the engineering effort to management as required.
  • The design of components or sections of a total system to meet specifications including, but not limited to, throughput, load capacity, size range, and building clearances.
  • The proper application of material handling and auxiliary equipment as needed to meet project requirements and minimize total project cost (engineering, material and installation).
  • Ordering material and clearly communicating specifications and requirements, by task, in time to meet project needs.
  • Supporting the preparation of an installation package that contains the drawings, special instruction, and other information that communicates all necessary technical information to installers/ subcontractors.
  • Helping project manager and installation department in planning the installation effort.
  • Seeking the least (total) cost and most practical solutions to system designs and technical problems considering engineering, material and installation components.

Qualifications:

Individuals who qualify must be proactive in nature, have a good mechanical aptitude, and an ability to work on multiple tasks at the same time. Required interpersonal skills include good verbal and written abilities and he/she must work well with others.   Computer skills include Windows based operating systems and utilities, Autocad 2010 and all Microsoft Office Products including Microsoft Outlook.  Two year technical degree or higher or equivalent experience.  Travel to job sites is a requirement for this position.  Frequency of travel is approximately six times per year.
